(Friday, October 27, 2006, at about 7:30-10:26 p.m. CDT) — The St. Louis Cardinals won the 2006 World Series tonight, beating the Detroit Tigers 4-2 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, in the fifth and deciding game.

It was the third of three World Series title for the White Sox (1906-2005).

Directed by Martin Scorsese, the film starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Ray Winstone, Vera Farmiga and Alec Baldwin.

24 won three awards, including Outstanding Drama Series and The Office won Outstanding Comedy Series. Ceremonies at Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles were hosted by Conan O’Brien.
