(Saturday, February 11, 2006) — U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney today shot Harry Whittington, a 78-year-old Texas attorney, while participating in a quail hunt on a ranch in Riviera, Texas.

Both Cheney and Whittington called the incident an accident.

(Wednesday, February 8, 2006, 8:00-11:30 p.m. EST) — The veteran Irish rock band U2 captured the limelight tonight at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards, winning five awards for their album How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, including album of the year, and overshadowing the comeback story of the evening, Mariah Carey, and the producer-turned-rapper Kanye West.

Sly and the Family Stone also reunited for a performance. Stone had not performed live in 19 years.

The six-hour service, held in the vast two-tiered sanctuary of the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church just outside Atlanta, was marked by elegiac moments, standing ovations, and, with the Clintons and Bushes sharing a podium, some overt political gibes about the war in Iraq and the Bush administration’s response to Hurricane Katrina.
