(Friday, September 5, 2004)Howl’s Moving Castle, a Japanese animated fantasy film about a diligent teenage girl working in her family’s hat shop who finds her life thrown into turmoil when she is literally swept off her feet by a handsome-but-mysterious wizard, premiered today at the Venice Film Festival.

Directed by Hayao Miyazaki, the film starred Chieko Baisho, Takuya Kimura and Akihiro Miwa.

72,000 spectators looked on as 1996 Olympic sailing champion Nikolaos Kaklamanakis lit a giant cigar-shaped tapered column resembling a torch (not the usual cauldron).
