‘Ticket to Ride’ by The Beatles peaks at #1 in USA 50 years ago today (May 22 1965)

(Saturday, May 22, 1965)“Ticket to Ride” by The Beatles peaked at #1 on today’s Billboard‘s Hot 100 singles chart for one week. It was the British group’s eighth of a record 20 number one hits on the chart (1964-1970).

In 2004, this song was ranked number 394 on Rolling Stone‘s list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”

(Friday, May 7, 1965) — Following their three-day shoot on Salisbury Plain for Help!, The Beatles today returned to Twickenham Film Studios to film the ‘exciting adventure of Paul on the floor’ scene in which Paul McCartney is accidentally injected with reducing fluid, loses his clothes, and misses out on much of the action while various people make a play for Ringo Starr’s ring.

(Monday, May 3, 1965) — The Beatles began a three-day location shoot today for the military scenes in their second feature film Help! on Salisbury Plain at Knighton Down in Larkhill, Wiltshire.

The band also mimed performances of their songs “I Need You” and “The Night Before” for the cameras.

(Friday, April 30, 1965) — The Beatles continued production on their second feature film Help! today, spending most of the day filming the scene in which they record “You’re Going To lose That Girl” at Twickenham Studios in London.

They also filmed the scenes in which an Asprey’s jeweler, played by Peter Copley, examines the ring stuck on Ringo Starr’s finger and another in which a magnetized elevator attracts all metal objects to the walls apart from the ring.

(Thursday, April 29, 1965) — The Beatles re-shot the scene for their second feature film Help! today at Twickenham Film Studios in London in which a night club hand drier sucks excessively in an attempt to steal Ringo Starr’s ring.

Another scene was re-shot today was of Starr tethered to a table in a room underneath The Beatles’ recording studio, before being rescued by Ahme, played by Eleanor Bron.
