Film legend Marlene Dietrich dies at 90 in Paris 20 years ago today (1992)

(Wednesday, May 6, 1992) — Marlene Dietrich, the seductive actress and entertainer whose sultry, distinctive face graced motion picture screens during Hollywood’s two most glamorous decades, died today of renal failure in the Right Bank apartment in Paris where she had lived as a fashionable recluse the past several years. She was 90.

‘Howards End’ opens in U.S. 20 years ago today (1992)

(Friday, March 13, 1992)Howards End, a film about class relations in turn-of-the-20th-century England, opened today in U.S. theaters, including the Fine Arts in New York.

Directed by James Ivory, the film starred Anthony Hopkins, Vanessa Redgrave, Helena Bonham Carter and Emma Thompson. It would go on to receive nine Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture.
