(Tuesday, November 25, 1969, morning BST) — John Lennon sent back to Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II today the Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) medal she gave him and the other Beatles in 1965 for helping Britain earn dollars “as a protest against Britain’s involvement in the Nigeria-Biafra thing, against our support of America in Vietnam and against ‘Cold Turkey’ slipping down the charts.”

Lennon signed the letter ‘With love, John Lennon” in own handwriting.
