(Sunday, September 28, 1975, Grateful Dead took the stage just before 4:00 p.m. PDT following Jefferson Starship’s more than two-hour performance that started at noon PDT) — 40,000 people got to see Jefferson Starship and Jerry Garcia and Friends perform for free today at Golden Gate Park’s Lindley Meadows in San Francisco; “Jerry Garcia and Friends” ended up being the Grateful Dead, who had not performed together in more than a year.
