‘Yesterday’ by The Beatles peaks at #1 in USA 50 years ago today (Oct 9 1965)

(Saturday, October 9, 1965)“Yesterday” by The Beatles, one of the most recorded songs in the history of popular music, peaked at #1 on today’s Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for four consecutive weeks (Oct. 9/16/23/30, 1965).

It was the group’s tenth of a record 20 number one hits on the chart (1964-1970) and ranked #13 on Rolling Stone‘s 2004 list “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”
