Original Cavern Club demolished in Liverpool 40 years ago today (1973)

(Tuesday, June 5, 1973)The Cavern Club in Liverpool, England, the venue where The Beatles started, was demolished today to allow construction of an underground railway ventilation duct, before being used as a car park.

A replica of the club was built on “75 per cent of the original site” in 1984, built with 15,000 bricks retrieved from the original club site.

  1. We visited Liverpool last year and went to the cavern club for the evening, it is a fantastic place to visit.

    The cavern club today is built on 75% of the original site at number 10 Mathew street, with 20,000 original bricks from the 60’s cavern club, it really was a great feeling to be there, if your ever in the city you should go and see for youself.
