(Tuesday, June 4, 1963)The Nutty Professor, a science fiction comedy feature film about a timid chemist discovers a potion that unleashes his sleazy side (a parody of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde), opened today in U.S. theaters.

Directed by Jerry Lewis, the film stars Lewis, Stella Stevens, Del Moore and Kathleen Freeman.

British Suffragette Emily Davison knocked down by King’s horse at Epsom 100 years ago today (1913)

(Wednesday, June 4, 1913) — British suffragist Emily Davison was struck and mortally injured today after moving into the path of a horse owned by King George V during the running of the Epsom Derby. Jockey Herbert Jones was thrown off and injured. Anmer recovered and completed the race on its own, but Davison, whose exact motives remain unclear, died at a hospital four days later.

Dean alleges Nixon knew of cover-up plan, Washington Post reports 40 years ago today (1973)

(Sunday, June 3, 1973; during the Watergate Scandal) — Former presidential counsel John W. Dean III has told Senate investigators and federal prosecutors that he discussed aspects of the Watergate cover-up with President Richard Nixon or in Nixon’s presence on at least 35 occasions between January and April of 1973, The Washington Post newspaper reported today.

Dean plans to testify under oath at the Senate’s Watergate hearings, regardless of whether he is granted full immunity from prosecution, and he will allege that President Nixon was deeply involved in the cover-up, the sources said.
