(Saturday, November 2, 1963, just after 6:50 a.m. ICT; during the 1963 South Vietnamese coup, part of the Vietnam War, the Indochina Wars and the Cold War) — South Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem and his younger brother Ngo Dinh Nhu were arrested and assassinated this morning after the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) had been successful in a bloody overnight siege on Gia Long Palace in Saigon.
