(Tuesday, March 23, 1965, 14:24:00 UTC) — America’s first two-person space mission began today as Gemini 3 blasted off from Cape Canaveral with astronauts Virgil I. Grissom and John W. Young aboard for a nearly 5-hour flight.

Gemini 3 was the first manned mission in NASA’s Gemini program, the second American manned space program.
