Film actors Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall wed 70 years ago this hour (May 21 1945)

(Monday, May 21, 1945, shortly after noon EWT; during World War II) — Actors Humphrey Bogart, 45, and Lauren Bacall, 20, were married today in the spacious hallway of the twenty-room house of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Louis Bromfield on Malabar Farm in Lucas, Ohio, in a three-minute ceremony.

It was his fourth marriage, her first, and would last until Bogart’s death in 1957.

(Monday, May 20, 1965) — The Rolling Stones taped a performance today in Los Angeles for the May 26, 1965, edition of the ABC-TV variety series Shindig!, performing “Down The Road A Piece,” “Little Red Rooster,” “The Last Time,” “Play with Fire” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” The vocals were live on prepared backing tracks recorded two days earlier.

(Saturday, May 20, 1995, evening) — CBS News has removed Connie Chung, the second woman to work as a regular anchor on a network evening newscast, from her post, the network announced tonight.

In response, Chung told CBS News executives that she wanted to be let out of her contract with the network, people close to the talks said.

In 2009, the “Grave Danger” episode was ranked #47 on TV Guide‘s 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time.

Directed by Mel Gibson, the film starred Gibson, Sophie Marceau, Patrick McGoohan and Catherine McCormack.
