(Saturday, March 27, 1976, 10:30 a.m. EST) — Washingtonians lined up by the thousands today for free rides on a short inaugural stretch of the Metro, the city’s new subway system. By afternoon, the unexpected throng was overloading the cars and causing delays throughout the system.
