(Monday, January 16, 1967, 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m./2:00-6:00 p.m. PST)The Monkees , an American-British pop rock band formed for the American television series The Monkees, held their first recording session today as a fully functioning, self-contained band in Studio A at RCA Recording Studios in Hollywood, working on early takes of three tracks (“She’s So Far Out, She’s In,” “The Girl I Knew Somewhere” and “All Of Your Toys”).

For the first five months of their recording career, the Monkees’ four actor-musicians were allowed only limited roles in the studio, due in part to the amount of time required to film the television series. But they eventually earned the right to collectively supervise all musical output under the band’s name.
