For the first time the vice president, John Nance Garner, was sworn-in outdoors on the same platform with the president.
It was also the first inauguration to take place on January 20 as per the 20th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
Roosevelt and Garner, Democrats, had handily defeated the Republican ticket of Alf Landon-Frank Knox in the November 1936 general election.
