(Thursday, March 10, 1988, 8:45 a.m. GMT) — British singer, songwriter, performer and teen idol Andy Gibb, the younger brother of the three members of the Bee Gees, died today at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, England.

Gibb, 30, died as a result of myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle caused by a recent viral infection, which was exacerbated by his years of cocaine abuse.
