(Monday, April 11, 1988, 6:00-9:33 p.m. PST)The Last Emperor, a British-Italian epic biographical drama film about about China’s final emperor, Pu Yi, who becomes a pawn of imperial forces, won nine Oscars tonight at the 60th Academy Awards, including Best Picture (Jeremy Thomas, producer) and Best Director (Bernardo Bertolucci).

Michael Douglas won Best Actor for Wall Street, Cher won Best Actress and Olympia Dukakis won Best Supporting Actress, both for Moonstruck, and Sean Connery won Best Supporting Actor for The Untouchables.

Ceremonies,hosted by Chevy Chase, were held at Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
