(Friday, April 17, 1998) — Linda McCartney, wife of former Beatle Paul McCartney, a photographer whose portraits of 1960’s rock stars have become classics and an activist for animal rights, died today at the McCartney family ranch in Tucson, Arizona, of breast cancer at the age of 56.
