(Tuesday, June 6, 1978, polls closed at 8:00 p.m. PDT) — Californians fed up with soaring property taxes today overwhelmingly approved Proposition 13, an amendment of the state Constitution that trims $7 billion off the amount of property tax revenue collected by the state and radically affecting local government finances.
