(Thursday, June 14, 1928, 11:20 p.m. CDT) — U.S. Secretary of Commerce Herbert Hoover of Iowa was nominated for President today at the 1928 Republican National Convention meeting at Convention Hall in Kansas City, Missouri, defeating Governor
Frank Lowden of Illinois 837-74 on the first ballot.

After President Calvin Coolidge announced that he would not run for a second full term in August 1927, Hoover emerged as the front-runner for the nomination.

The following day, on June 15, 1928, U.S. Senator Charles Curtis of Kansas was nominated for Vice President, defeating former Attorney General of Wisconsin Herman Ekern 1,052-19 on the first ballot.

The Hoover-Curtis ticket would oppose the Democratic ticket of Alfred Smith and Joseph Robinson (nominated in later in June 1928) in the 1928 general election.
