(Thursday, June 27, 1968, 6:00 p.m PDT) — Elvis Presley performed the first of two sit-down live mini-concerts for his television special Singer Presents…ELVIS (commonly referred to as the 68 Comeback Special) tonight at NBC Studios in Burbank, California, for airing on Dec. 3, 1968.

Presley performed and interacted with his first backup musicians, Scotty Moore and DJ Fontana, and members of his entourage, Charlie Hodge and Alan Fortas.

The band performed a second “mini-concert” tonight at 8:00 p.m. PDT.

The special marked Presley’s return to live performance after seven years during which his career was centered in the movie business.
