(Saturday, August 1, 1968)The Wichita Train Whistle Sings, the de facto first solo album by Michael Nesmith of The Monkees, although the artist credited on the initial release was actually “The Wichita Train Whistle,” peaked at #144 on today’s Billboard Top LP’s chart for two weeks.

The album comprises instrumentals performed by a full orchestra. All but one of the songs were recorded by the Monkees (althugh a couple of them weren’t released until the Missing Link albums).
