(Thursday, August 22, 1968, 7:00 p.m.-4:45 a.m. BST; during sessions for The Beatles, also known as “The White Album”) — Ringo Starr quit The Beatles tonight during rehearsals for Paul McCartney’s “Back in the U.S.S.R.” at EMI Studio 2 in London.

The remaining Beatles continued work on the The Beatles album, also known as “The White Album,” while Starr flew to the Mediterranean for a holiday.

Starr’s temporary departure from the group was not reported in the press at the time. He would return to the group on Sep. 3, 1968.
