(Monday, August 26, 1968 7:30 p.m. CDT; during the 1968 Democratic National Convention) — The Democratic National Convention, unsettled by a brushfire movement to draft Senator Edward M. Kennedy for President, plunged into fights on its rules and on the seating of disputed delegations soon after it opened tonight at the International Amphitheatre in Chicago.
Earlier in the day, about 1,000 anti-Vietnam War protesters marched to Grant Park and swarmed the General Logan statue. Some protesters climbed the statue and hoisted Vietcong flags. Police cleared the hill and the statue.
