(Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at 9:28 p.m. CDT; during the 2008 Republican National Convention) — Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska, the presumptive Republican vice presidential nominee, introduced herself to America tonight before a roaring crowd of GOP delegates at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota, as “just your average hockey mom” who was as qualified as the Democratic nominee, Senator Barack Obama, to be president of the United States.

Palin was nominated by acclamation the next day on the ticket with Senator John McCain of Arizona, who would accept the Republican presidential nomination on the that evening (Sep. 4, 2008).
