(Friday, November 22, 1968) — The Beatles, the ninth studio album by the English rock band The Beatles, was released today in the UK (Nov. 25, 1968, in the U.S.).

Better known as “The White Album,” the double-LP featured a plain white sleeve with no graphics or text other than the band’s name embossed in what appeared to be in direct contrast to the vivid cover artwork of the band’s previous LP Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.
