(Friday, January 10, 1969, 10:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. BST) — The Beatles gathered this morning at Twickenham Film Studios in London for the seventh day of rehearsals for the Get Back/Let It Be sessions, intended to form the basis for both a television documentary and a new album.

After breaking for lunch, George Harrison declared “See you ’round the clubs,” and walked out of the studio, unable to tolerate any longer the tensions within the group.

Whether in denial or disbelief, the remaining three Beatles carried on rehearsing without Harrison.

At one point, John Lennon’s girlfriend, Yoko Ono, positioned herself on Harrison’s blue cushion, and wailed over the top of a series of barely-listenable, blues-based jams. The three Beatles joined together in the harshness of the music, possibly finding it cathartic amid the uncertainty of the day.

All four Beatles would meet at Brookfield House, Ringo Starr’s Tudor mansion in Elstead, Surrey, on Sunday, Jan. 12, 1969, in an attempt to sort out the problems within group following Harrison’s sudden departure two days earlier. The meeting, however, was not a success and Harrison left early without agreeing to rejoin The Beatles.
