Lennon, Ono attend peace conference in Ottawa 50 years ago this hour #OnThisDay #OTD (Jun 3 1969)

(Tuesday, June 3, 1969, 5:30 p.m. EDT; during the Vietnam War) — John Lennon of The Beatles and his wife, Yoko Ono, concluded their second week-long bed-in for peace in room 1742 of the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal this morning and boarded a train to Ottawa where the couple attended a late afternoon peace conference in the Arts Lobby of Simard Hall at the University of Ottawa.

After the conference, at about 7:00 p.m. EDT, Lennon and Ono briefly addressed a large crowd at the entrance to the administration building.

Later in the evening, they stopped by the residence of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, who was out of town, and left a note.

At about 11:30 p.m., Lennon and Ono boarded Ottawa on an overnight train to Toronto.
