‘Tank Man’ temporarily halts Chinese tank column near Tiananmen Square 30 years ago this hour #OnThisDay #OTD (Jun 5 1989)

(Monday, June 5, 1989, at around noon a.m. CDT; after the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests) — One day after the Tiananmen Square Massacre, an unknown Chinese protestor, “Tank Man,” stood in front of a column of military tanks today on Chang’an Avenue in Beijing, temporarily halting them, an incident which achieves iconic status internationally through images taken by Western photographers.
