(Monday, August 11, 1969, 2:30 p.m.-11:30 p.m. British Summer Time; during sessions for Abbey Road) — The Beatles completed recording John Lennon’s “I Want You (She’s So Heavy),” with Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison taping the repeated “she’s so heavy” vocals, and McCartney’s “Oh! Darling,” with new backing vocals by Lennon, McCartney and Harrison, today at EMI Studio 2 in London.

It was the ninth and tenth of 14 tracks completed for the band’s next album, Abbey Road.

Incidentally, Lennon’s backing vocals for “Oh! Darling” would mark his final contribution to a Beatles recording (except for “The Beatles’ Seventh Christmas Record,” for which Lennon recorded his contribution to the novelty record for fan club members separately from the rest of the band in late Nov. or early Dec. 1969).

McCartney had attempted at recording a lead vocal take for “Oh! Darling” on July 17, 18 and 22, 1969, before he nailed it on July 23, 1969.
