(Saturday, September 12, 1959, 7:30-8:30 p.m EDT)Bonanza, an American western television series that was set in the 1860s and centered on the wealthy Cartwright family that live in the vicinity of Virginia City, Nevada, bordering Lake Tahoe, debuted tonight on NBC-TV.

Created by David Dortort, the series starred Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker and Michael Landon.

Bonanza was one of the first series to be filmed and broadcast in color.
