(Thursday, October 9, 1919, 4:27 p.m. CDT) — The Cincinnati Reds won the 1919 World Series, defeating the Chicago White Sox 10-5 today at Comiskey Park in Chicago.

Eight members of the White Sox would be accused of intentionally losing games in exchange for money from a gambling syndicate led by Arnold Rothstein in what would become known as the Black Sox Scandal.

The players were later found not guilty, though Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis, the first Commissioner of Baseball, permanently banned all eight men from professional baseball.
