(Sunday, November 15, 1959, just after midnight CST) — Four members of the Clutter family – Herb Clutter, his wife Bonnie, and their teenage children Nancy and Kenyon – were murdered early this morning in their home in the small farming community of Holcomb, Kansas.

Ex-convicts Richard Hickock and Perry Smith were later convicted of the killings and hanged in a case made famous by Truman Capote’s 1966 non-fiction novel In Cold Blood.
