(Tuesday, February 18, 1930) — Dwarf planet Pluto was discovered today by astronomer Clyde Tombaugh at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Pluto, made primarily made of ice and rock, is the ninth-largest and tenth-most-massive known object directly orbiting the Sun.
