(Friday, April 17, 1970)McCartney, the debut solo album by ex-Beatle Paul McCartney, was released today in the UK (Apr. 20, 1970, in the U.S.)

McCartney recorded the album in secrecy during a period of depression and confusion, following John Lennon’s private announcement in September 1969 that he was leaving The Beatles.

A press release in the form of a self-interview, supplied with UK promotional copies of McCartney, led to the public announcement of the group’s break-up on Apr. 10, 1970.
