(Sunday, June 25, 1950, shortly before 6:00 p.m. EDT; during the Korean War, part of the Cold War) — In response to the North Korean invasion, United Nations Security Council Resolution 82 was approved this afternoon, calling for “an immediate cessation of hostilities” and for “North Korea to withdraw forthwith their armed forces to the 38th parallel.”
The vote was 9-0, with the USSR absent and Yugoslavia abstaining.
President Harry S. Truman kept United States reaction to the Korean crisis under advisement tonight after a three-hour conference in Blair House with top state and and defense officials.

The meeting took place immediately upon the President’s hurried return from Missouri (he arrived at Washington’s National Airport at 7:15 p.m. EDT), produced no statement except a press officer’s announcement that there would be “continued conferring” on Monday.
