(Sunday, July 7, 1940) — English musician, singer, songwriter and actor Sir Richard Starkey MBE, known professionally as Ringo Starr, who gained worldwide fame as the drummer for the Beatles, was born today at 9 Madryn Street in Dingle, an inner city area of Liverpool, England.

On July 7, 2010, Starr celebrated his 70th birthday at Radio City Music Hall with another All-Starr Band concert, topped with friends and family joining him on stage including former Beatle Paul McCartney, former Beatle John Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, and Starr’s son Zak Starkey.
