(Friday, November 14, 1980) — Three days before the release of Double Fantasy, his first studio album in five years (with his wife, Yoko Ono), former Beatle John Lennon recorded an electric guitar demo for his song “You Saved My Soul (With Your True Love)” today at his home at The Dakota apartment building in New York City.

“You Saved My Soul (With Your True Love)” is believed to be the last demo Lennon recorded before he was murdered on Dec. 8, 1980 outside his home by a deranged fan.

The demo also contained fragments of the songs “Pop Is the Name of the Game” and “Serve Yourself.”

On an unspecified date in early November, Lennon also recorded a demo for the song “Dear John.”

Aside from guitar overdubs for Ono’s “Walking On Thin Ice” in early December, these demos are believed to be Lennon’s last musical performances captured on tape.
