(Tuesday, November 25, 1980; during sessions for Stop and Smell the Roses) — English rock musician and former Beatle Ringo Starr completed two tracks today for Stop and Smell the Roses, his eighth studio album, having reunited with fellow ex-Beatle George Harrison starting Nov. 19, 1980, at Harrison’s Friar Park Studio, Henley-on-Thames (FPSHOT) in Henley-on-Thames, England.

Starr recorded “Wrack My Brain,” which Harrison had composed for Starr, and “You Belong to Me,” a romantic popular music ballad from the 1950s, with Harrison producing.

Starr also recorded an early version of Harrison’s “All Those Years Ago,” but Starr told Harrison the vocal was too high for his range and he didn’t like the lyrics at that point.

Ten days before the Harrison sessions were completed, on Nov. 15, 1980, in New York City, another ex-Beatle, John Lennon, handed Starr the demos for Lennon’s songs “Life Begins at 40” and “Nobody Told Me.” With Lennon producing, they set a date, Jan. 14, 1981 to record the songs.
