Paul McCartney’s ‘Rockshow’ concert film opens in New York City 40 years ago this hour #OnThisDay #OTD (Nov 26 1980)

(Wednesday, November 26, 1980, first showing scheduled for 12:45 p.m. EST)Rockshow, a concert film release by Paul McCartney and Wings, filmed May 25-June 23, 1976, during the band’s 1976 North American tour, opened today at the Ziegfeld Theatre at 141 West 54th Street in New York City.

Produced by Bob Mercer, the film featured performances by McCartney and his band Wings, which included his wife, Linda McCartney, Denny Laine, Jimmy McCulloch and Joe English.

McCartney did not attend today’s opening but did appear live from England, on ABC’s Good Morning America on the following morning to promote it.

He would also attend the London premiere at the Dominion Theatre in Piccadilly Circus on Apr. 8, 1981.
