(Thursday, December 21, 1620) — The first of the Mayflower Pilgrims landed today at Plymouth, Massachusetts, where they established the Plymouth Colony.

The Mayflower had departed the English port of Plymouth in September 1620 for the Colony of Virginia.

Of the 102 passengers, 37 were Puritan Separatists who intended to establish a new settlement in the New World. The rest were servants, farmers, adventurers and tradesmen who were to support the fledgling colony.
