(Sunday, May 23, 1971) — Former Beatle John Lennon recorded a piano/vocal demo of “Imaginetoday at Ascot Sound Studios, his home recording facility at Tittenhurst Park near Ascot in Berkshire.

This recording of “Imagine” would be lost until early 2016 when engineer Rob Stevens and his team discovered it in the “Lenono archives” while going through tape boxes that had substandard labeling.

Lennon would begin properly recording the song on May 27, 1971, as the title track to his second studio album, Imagine, which would be released Sept. 7, 1971, in the U.S. and Oct. 8, 1971 in the UK.

Meantime, on this very same day, another ex-Beatle, Ringo Starr, was seen briefly at a dinner party in Monte Carlo, Monaco, for race car driver Jackie Stewart after Stewart had won the Monaco Grand Prix.
