John Lennon overdubs lead vocals on ‘Jealous Guy,’ ‘How?’ and ‘Oh Yoko!’ 50 years ago #OnThisDay #OTD (May 29 1971)

(Saturday, May 29, 1971) — Former Beatle John Lennon overdubbed his lead vocals on three tracks, including “Jealous Guy,” “How?” and “Oh Yoko!” today at Ascot Sound Studios, his home recording facility at Tittenhurst Park near Ascot in Berkshire.

The tracks were recorded for Lennon’s second studio album, Imagine, which would be released Sept. 7, 1971, in the U.S. and Oct. 8, 1971 in the UK.

“Jealous Guy,” which was tracked at Ascot on May 24, 1971, was completed July 4, 1971, with an overdub of the string arrangement at Record Plant East in New York City.

“How?” was tracked at Ascot on May 25, 1971, and completed July 4, 1971, with an overdub of the string arrangement at Record Plant East in New York City.

“Oh Yoko!” was tracked at Ascot on May 25, 1971, and completed on this day with take 1 as the master. It was the third of ten tracks for the new album that had been completed, following “Crippled Inside” and “Oh My Love.”
