(Sunday, December 7, 1941, 7:48 a.m. in Honolulu/1:18 p.m. in Washington/Monday, December 8, 1941, 3:18 a.m. in Tokyo; during the Attack on Pearl Harbor, part of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of World War II) — The Empire of Japan launched an air raid on the U.S. Navy base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii today, with an attack on Naval Air Station (NAS) Kaneohe Bay to the east of the Hawaiian island of Oahu, as well as targets in Malaya, Hong Kong, Guam, the Philippines and Wake Island.

Of the 36 Catalinas stationed here, 27 were destroyed and six others were damaged, along with 18 sailors who perished in the attack.
