(Saturday, December 11, 1971, approximately 3:00 a.m. EST; during the John Sinclair Freedom Rally) — Former Beatle John Lennon and his wife, Yoko Ono, appeared early this morning at the John Sinclair Freedom Rally in the Crisler Arena at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The Lennons performed four songs, including “Attica State,” “The Luck Of The Irish,” “Sisters, O Sisters” and “John Sinclair.”

The reason behind the concert was the 1969 sentencing of Sinclair, who was given ten years in prison for the possession of two marijuana cigarettes.

A few days after the rally, on Monday, Dec. 13, 1971, Sinclair was released from Jackson State Prison. Once at home, John and wife Leni telephoned the Lennons to thank them for their support.
