(Friday, July 23, 1982, about 2:30 a.m. PDT) — Actor Vic Morrow and two child actors, 7-year-old Myca Dinh Le and 6-year-old Renee Shin-Yi Chen, were killed this morning when a Bell UH-1 Iroquois helicopter crashed on top of them during filming of a Vietnam War scene for Twilight Zone: The Movie northwest of Los Angeles.

The tail rotor of the helicopter, carrying a camera crew, had been hit by debris from explosives detonated in a Vietnam War scene. Morrow and the children were struck and killed by the main rotor of the helicopter as it pitched into a river on the set at Indian Dunes in Valencia, Santa Clarita, California. Six passengers in the helicopter were injured.

The incident led to years of civil and criminal action against the personnel overseeing the shoot and after the incident, new procedures and safety standards in the filmmaking industry were introduced

Director John Landis and four associates were later acquitted of manslaughter charges.
