(Monday, August 21, 1972, following the 7:00 p.m. EDT scheduled start time for opening act Phlorescent Leech & Eddie) — Two years and 49 days after lead singer Jim Morrison was found dead in a bathtub in Paris, the surviving members of the American rock group The Doors — keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore — performed tonight during the Schaefer Music Festival at the Wollman Skating Rink in New York City’s Central Park.

The Doors were joined on stage by jazz musician Charles Lloyd for two numbers, including “Verdilac” and “Close To You.”

The Schaefer Music Festival ran from June 15 to Aug. 30, 1972, and featured approximately 37 concerts.
