(Monday, May 9, 1983, 7:30 p.m. EDT) — After rescuing Han Solo from the palace of Jabba the Hutt, the Rebels attempt to destroy the Second Death Star, while Luke Skywalker tries to bring his father back to the Light Side of the Force in Return of the Jedi (also known as Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi), premiered tonight at the Lowes Astor Plaza Theater in Times Square in Midtown Manhattan in New York City.

The American epic space opera film was the third installment in the original Star Wars trilogy, the third film to be produced, and the sixth chronological film in the “Skywalker Saga.”

The film was released in theaters on May 25, 1983.
