John Lennon tracks three songs for fourth studio solo album ‘Mind Games’ 50 years ago #OnThisDay #OTD (Aug 3 1973)

(Friday, August 3, 1973; during recording sessions for Mind Games) — Ex-Beatle John Lennon continued recording Mind Games, his fourth studio solo album, today at the Record Plant, Studio B in New York City.


Video: 'Meat City (Remastered 2010)'

Lennon tracked three songs on this third day of sessions, including “You Are Here,” “Meat City” and “Only People.”

Overdubs for the album would be recorded starting Aug. 10, 1973, and mixing would begin on Aug. 21, 1973.

“You Are Here” was mixed September 4, 1973, and was a composite of takes 7 and 9.

“Meat City” received a rough mix on Aug. 28, 1973, and was mixed on Sept. 14, 1973, with take 18 as the master.

“Only People” would be the first track mixed on Aug. 21, 1973, and was remixed on Aug. 30, 1973, using a composite of takes 8, 13, and 14.

The album, which was released in the U.S. on Oct. 29, 1973, and in the UK on Nov. 16, 1973 was Lennon’s first self-produced recording without help from Phil Spector.
